Of course, if you have a burning desire for a weekend getaway that would require boarding a plane, more power to you. There are always last minute travel specials to be found on any of the travel sights or through agents. If your schedule is flexible and you want to be spontaneous, you could end up with a wonderful trip as a reward for traveling so spontaneously. A few years ago, my hubby and I decided that we felt like going to Las Vegas for a 3-day weekend. We ended up getting a wonderful deal that saved us hundreds of dollars for the flight and the hotel. Our entire weekend getaway only cost us $500. I was thrilled. I won't mention how much the gambling ended up costing us because that's a different story!
You can always find weekend getaways to any local bed and breakfasts that might be in your town or somewhere nearby. The main purpose of having a weekend getaway is just to get away from your normal environment. Perhaps locking yourself away in a local hotel or B&B could be what your soul needs. You can rekindle romances with loved ones or spend some quality time alone with your thoughts. As long as you are getting away from your normal everyday life, it is definitely considered a weekend getaway. I've done that over the years. When I was single and lived alone, the winters would get to me. There was a lovely B&B about 20 miles from my home that I'd spend several nights at. I wouldn't tell anyone where I was, I just went to be alone. I always returned home feeling refreshed and energized.
Many people find that camping makes for some wonderful weekend getaways. Pitching a tent and sleeping in a sleeping bag aren't my favorite, but many people love being in nature. A lot of families find that this is an expensive and wonderful bonding weekend getaway that makes for some wonderful memories.
Wanting to have a weekend getaway isn't as tough as you might think. If you can afford to take a last minute whirlwind trip someplace, go for it. If you aren't able to do that financially, open your phone book. Find someplace nearby that you could escape to. No matter where you go, the main purpose is to relax.
