Modern day society is all about convenience in almost everything. People like things to be simple and to the point, saving them as much time and energy as possible. Everyone always has places to go and lots of things to do, they don’t want to be bothered with tedious chores and tasks. Everyone is always in a huge hurry.
Sitting down one evening every few weeks to handwrite checks to pay your bills and licking the stamps for the envelopes used to be an evening people dreaded. Now, there are many companies that offer the convenience of being able to pay online. You no longer have to calculate how many days ahead of time you should be mailing your bills so that they get there on time. Now, you can pay online on the exact day that they are due. It is a stroke of genius and a concept that has swept the nations. It is so simple to pay online that it is hard to believe more people didn’t bother with this concept before. It almost is strange to think that one can almost do everything online these days without stepping foot out of their home for days. What a world it has become.
Of course, when people began to pay online, there were lots of problems. People who have nothing better to do with their time and don’t want to earn an honest living, decided to try to hack into sites and take advantage of people’s abilities to pay online. Suddenly, you are more sensitive to identity fraud. Your bank account information may be accessible along with your social security information and who knows what else. And yes, people can get their hands on almost all of that information if it is made available online. Make sure that when you do decide to pay online for anything, that you are on a secure site. If a site is secure, you will most likely never encounter any problems. If it isn’t secure and doesn’t even indicate that it is secure, go back to licking those envelopes. Tasting that horrible glue once a month is better than having someone else steal your identity and racking up lots of debt in your name. It doesn’t take long for someone to ruin you after obtaining your information.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to discourage anyone from being able to pay online. The only bills that I actually send anymore are my utilities. My car payment, insurance, and credit cards are all paid online. I love being able to wait until the day before or the day of to make my payments. I can see it post immediately and receive a confirmation. I don’t have to spend time wondering if I’ll get a late payment because the mail system was behind a day because of the weather. Plus, it saves me a few dollars on stamps each month. The less glue I’m tasting, the happier I am.
