    Non Profit Bylaws

Nonprofit bylaws are important for a variety of reasons. First of all, they govern every aspect of how the nonprofit is going to be run. Just because not for profit organizations are often driven by a desire to help people doesn't mean that they are immune from the normal personality conflicts that plague regular businesses. On the contrary, nonprofit businesses tend to be some of the most conflict laden organizations out there today. Non profit bylaws are meant to protect the functioning of your organization, to help ensure that it stays true to its mission through various personnel changes and shakeups.

Even more importantly, non profit bylaws really work to define the mission of your organization. Although many people will choose to interact with a non profit organization based on trusting its mission alone or on talking to the people in it, other ones wants to see a mission statement and the non profit by laws before contributing or choosing to work with the group. Basically, the bigger the donor or the more important the organization, the more likely they are to want to see your non profit bylaws. Non profit bylaws will come in to play when you are going through the process of applying for grants, looking for allies, or even talking to members of the community. You might not expect it if you have never been involved in starting a non profit organization before, but it is really true. The bylaws nonprofits run on are crucial for a variety of reasons.
