My husband thinks I have good taste in decorating and told me that this is most likely why my friend asked me to come along. He asked me what she meant by a living room table. I told him I was not sure if she meant that she wanted a sofa table to put lamps on, or a coffee table to put in front of the sofa, or an occasional table. I told him that I would find out the next day when I was meeting my friend at the furniture store.
I was caught up in a traffic jam the next morning so I arrived a few minutes later than our agreed upon time. My friend was already in the store looking around. I asked her what kind of living room table she was looking for. She said that she would love to find one like we have at our house. My husband and I have an antique drop leave table that we use as a sofa table. If we have company over to play cards or if we need the extra table space we can fold up the leaves and have a table that seats six people. I explained to her that our table is over a hundred years old. We asked the clerk if they had any drop leaf tables, but they did not. My friend was also looking at coffee tables. Her living room is not very big so I did not think she would have room for both a sofa table and a coffee table. I let her browse and I gave my opinion of different pieces when she asked for it. After several minutes of looking we left the store and decided where we were going to go next. I told my friend that I thought she needed to have a better idea of what kind of living room table she was looking for or we would be at this all day. She again said that she wanted a table similar to ours. I suggested that we go to an antique store. We went to the closest antiques store that handles furniture. We found a drop leaf table that needed refinishing, but was otherwise in good shape. My friend made arrangements for them to deliver her new living room table. It will be interesting to see how it looks once she has refinished it.
